Canon's Océ Group—responsible for the company's professional large format printers, is working on a a similar approach like Fujifilm's 3D printed fine art reproduction technique.

They are working with Dutch researcher Tim Zaman to duplicate famous paintings. Working with the Kröller-Müller and Rijksmuseum museums in the Netherlands, Zaman's method is a photographic scanning system that can capture more than just a high-res image of a painting. It can also record 3D details like brush strokes and the the texture of paint.

It will then be turned into a 3D model and with a high resolution 600ppi 3D printer, it can recreate famous pieces of art in a ton of convincing detail. How about the Night's Watch in 3D huh?
