Volvo wants to make airbags for the exterior too. It's a good idea for sure, though one would think just how possible will this be?

The Daily Mail reports on “external airbags that pop up on the side of cars are the latest safety innovations being developed for the motoring industry.”

TRW Automotive is the company behind the project and it gets its funding from the European Union.

Volvo launched its under-bonnet airbag last year and it makes the pedestrians' impact with the front of the car, less fatal.

Should this be installed in every other car?
