"Ionic" Speaker Is Stretchable and See-Through. And They Sound Good (Video)

Are the speakers you have a tad bit opaque? A bunch of Harvard scientists have just built a stretchable ionic speaker out of gel that is as transparent as a window. It can play the entire audible spectrum from 20 hertz to 20 kilohertz and sounds pretty good too.
Made of a clear piece of stretchable, insulating rubber sandwiched between two layers of hydrogen, the resultant shape is hooked up to copper electrodes and send a high voltage electric blast through the whole thing causing the rubber to vibrate.
It also doesn't look like a speaker at all, but what's getting scientists excited is the ionic conductor. Ionic devices sends signals over ions, and this is the first device that can power conventional electronics. Check it out below: [New Scientist, Harvard]
