VW shows off their plug-in hybrid Golf GTE. It sits in between the two other models - petrol and diesel, in terms of power and makes a combined total of 201hp and 258 lb-ft torque pushing it to 100km/h in 7.6 seconds. It has a top speed of 216km/h, Very impressive.
Still, it is the slowest of all three models, in terms of sprinting and outright speed. VW has claimed that the combined fuel consumption figure on this is 1.5 l/100 km which equals to 157mpg US or 188 mpg UK. This is achieved with the all-electric range of up to 31 miles (~50 km). The car has a combined autonomy of 584 miles (934 km), plus super low CO2 emissions of 35 g/km.
The GT's looks draws heavily upon that of the GTI, and replaces the GTI's red detailing with blue and features side skits and a discreet spoiler on the back. The Golf GTE is set to debut in the metal at the Geneva motor show.
