Did you dream about getting back together with your horrible ex last night, only to wake up covered in sweat? Know that you're not alone.

A recent sleep study has revealed that not only do women report having significantly more nightmares than men do, but that the themes of these nightmares also vary by gender.

The study reported that men were more likely to have nightmares about things like cataclysmic plots. As for women, these nightmares frequently revolved around interpersonal conflicts.
Of the 9,796 reports, 253 qualified as nightmares. Analyzing themes and emotional content, the researchers found that men were more likely to report having nightmares about natural disasters (floods, earthquakes, fires, volcanoes), chase or pursuit, and insects. Women’s nightmare records more often featured interpersonal conflicts, such as an argument with a spouse and more frequently involved feelings of humiliation, frustration, or inadequacy.
