Paramount Pictures released a still image of Scarlett Johansson as Major Motoko Kusanagi in the live-action adaptation of the popular anime series Ghost in The Shell. It is scheduled for a March 31, 2017 release, but not everyone is happy with the casting.

The image sparked controversy to whitewashing of Asian roles. One vocal comment came from Marvel 's Agents of Shield actress Ming-Na Wen:


People were quick to point out that maybe Oscar nominee Rinko Kikuchi would have better suited the role instead.




It's all business, probably. But still...
