1. Andy Warhol’s actual name was Andy Warhola but dropped the ‘A’ as he emerged in the art scene.
2. Eating alone was one of his favorite things to do, so he wanted to open a chain of restaurants called “ANDY-MATS – The Restaurant for the Lonely Person.”
3. Warhol was a huge fan of taxidermy, with a collection of a lion, peacock, penguin, moose head, and even a great dane named Cecil.
4. Warhol went on a college lecture tour and hired his friend Allen Midgette to impersonate him for any lectures he couldn’t attend.
5. Warhol was told that he had lazy eyes so in an attempt to correct this, he would wear opaque glasses that had only a small hole for each eye to see through.
6. Warhol’s alter ego, “Drella” was a combination of Dracula and Cinderella.
7. The first movie that Warhol ever made was titled, “Sleep,” which was a six hour long movie comprised entirely of his friends sleeping.
8. For two decades, Warhol kept a cardboard box next to his desk that he would fill with interesting items collected throughout his day. When each box was filled, he would seal it, and start a new one, resulting in a collection of over 600 boxes by the time of his death.
9. When he was in his 20s, Warhol dyed his hair grey so that people would notice how young his face looked.
10. His favorite item to purchase was underwear.
11. Warhol and his pals once bought 2000 bottles of Dom Pérignon champagne to save for a big millenium party. Unfortunately Warhol passed away in 1987.
12. In 1968, Warhol was shot and when he arrived at the hospital, he was reportedly dead. After hours of surgery, he was revived and survived for another 19 years.
13. Warhol’s famous piece, ‘Campbell’s Soup Cans’ is commonly thought to be just one Tomato soup can. It was actually a collection of 32, representing one of each flavor available at the time.
