A group of researchers are applying OLEDs to plain old rulers. And they don't look so plain anymore. Glassified is a prototype by Amirudh Sharma, Lirong Liu and Pattie Maes. The three MIT students are part of the FIG group, and their device - in theory - is a clear glass ruler embedded with an OLED panel and a Wacom digitizer connected to a nearby computer.
When you draw a series of lines with it, the Wacom recognizes the pen strokes and performs an analysis on them, relaying that information back to you via its OLED screen. It can tell the angle of a triangle or the length of a line, or the area of a polygon. Its the kind of ruler you wished you had in school.
Still, its a long way before it reaches reality, but the demonstration is pretty neat. Check it out below:[Anirudh Sharma via Creative Applications]
