Laurent Aigon may be the one of the best dads of the year. Over the last five years, he built a 737 cockpit that's so life like its been used as a training simulator for his son.

He ordered parts from the internet, at a cost tallying thousands of euros and he assembled everything that functions precisely the way the real deal would work.

He attached five networked monitors to his set up and made it possible to simulate journeys to destinations as far as Sydney and Rio de Janeiro.

Aigon's work received plenty of notice outside his home; he was invited to lecture at the Institute of Aircraft Maintenance at Bordeaux-Merignac, which also used his simulator to train its students.
