Swatch has officially unveiled as Basel World 2013 its Swatch Sistem51 which features the world's first Swiss mechanical movement that's assembled through an automated process that allows it to be mass produced/

Mechanical movement features tiny components that usually have to be assembled by hand for exacting precision. Which is why they're usually so expensive.

The Sistem51 has managed to reduce the number of mechanical components to just 51. And it makes it easy for a machine to assemble. The watch's copper, nickel and zinc alloy case is anti magnetic, and the movement inside it never needs adjusting.

The price hasn't been announced yet, but we're probably looking at something just over a few hundred bucks. [Swatch via Hodinkee]
