A new TV show called Revolution showed off just how apocalyptic the world would be if the lights got turned off. These Darkened Cities image series by Thierry Cohen shows just that, without the chaos. The images remind us of just how much more beautiful cities look like with light. Do we take it for granted?

Cohen traveled to cities but on the same latitude. To LA, San Francisco, Rio de Janeiro, to places like Joshua Tree National Park, to the Mojave Desert and the Amazon. All darkened out. Cohen photographed and combined these skies with images of the cities, treated so they looked as though they were illuminated only by the stars.
