Its an inevitable thing, your laptop's battery will degrade over time, but there are several ways to slow that down. To do so, you can check out some systems which provide battery maintenance utilities that make the battery life last 1.5 times longer by preventing it from a full charge.

According to Trouble Fixers, some laptops like Sony and Lenovo have special battery maintenance settings which prevent the battery from being stored at full charge.  If you have a Lenovo laptop, use its Power Management tool and the Battery Maintenance options. For Sony VAIOs, look for the Battery Care utility.

If you can't find such setting on yours, you can remove the battery from the laptop when its plugged in. Another guideline is the two-week rule of thumb: remove the battery if you're not going to use the laptop for two weeks or will be using it continuously for at least two weeks plugged in.
