What comes to mind when you think of an action cam? A GoPro. Now, the company wants to cement that reputation with the launch of their latest product: the Hero3. It is a smaller, lighter version that can record even better quality footage than its predecessor.

GoPro claims that the Hero3 is 30 percent smaller and 25 percent lighter than the older model. The Black model is able to capture video up to 4k resolution. The only condition is that you'll have to record down to 15 fps.

The faster processor in the camera allows it to capture lower resolution footage at higher frame rates than in the past. Even its lower spec models are impressive. The Silver, is an 11MP camera that can capture 1080p30 video. White packs a simple 5MP camera. All three, though, do feature Wi-Fi.

Pre-orders have just kicked off, with prices standing at $400 for the Black Edition, $300 for the Silver and $200 for the White. [GoPro via Engadget]
