Mnet's '2009 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA)' vowed to become a music festival of Asia and started off with a bang.

MAMA was held at the Jamshil Indoor Gymnasium at 7 pm on the 21st. This event was broadcasted through Mnet and KMTV in, not only Korea, but the ten major Asian nations Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Macao, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.

Three members of TVXQ, Micky Yoochun, Xiah Junsu, and YoungWoong Jaejoong, who are caught in a legal dispute with their agency SM Entertainment, did not follow the footsteps of the agency and instead announced their attendance of the awards ceremony and many are curious of the future of TVXQ.

The TVXQ fans who were on location sang a TVXQ song together as the commercials were playing at the end of Act 1 to show their love for TVXQ. They also waved their red balloons and shouted "TVXQ" to show their belief that TVXQ would last forever.

Cable Channel Mnet released an official statement that read that TVXQ's YoungWoong Jaeoong, Micky Yoochun and Xiah Junsu would be attending the '2009 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA)'.

On the 21st, the three members revealed through Mnet that, "All five members are planning to attend various overseas end of the year awards this year," and "Till now, we've been focusing a lot on overseas activities, and we've always felt sorry towards our domestic fans who have been waiting for us the whole time."

The three members also said, "We want to greet our fans and say our thanks to them at a music festival," and "It would have been better if all five members could attend."

The three members also added, "We believed that the meaning of the creation of '2009 MAMA' as a festival that brings Asia together through music was very meaningful," and "As artistes who perform activities in many parts of Asia, we are very happy that such an awards ceremony was created in Korea."

Mnet stated, "As TVXQ is the forerunner of Asia stars, we officially invited all five members to the MAMA awards," and "As they have decided to attend for genuine, good purposes, we hope that people do not see their decision in a bad light or misunderstand the situation."
