Everyone remembers the "Fake/Copycat/Chinese SNSD" article that was posted a few days ago, yeah? ((Well here's the link if you don't.)) After reading that article, I felt like I should clarify a few things.
Idol Girl's first album "Age of Innocence" Release Date: July 7th, 2009 ((aka, they are not a group that JUST debuted)) 1. Pirate 2. Age of Innocence 3. Strange Journey
Doesn't seem like they're plagiarizing SNSD yet right? Other than the fact that they have 9 members and all dance, sing, act, model, MC, and know English...
Proof that Idol Girls is a cover group, right?
The text reads "完美时空杯17173第七届" A Google search yields this site which hosted an anime/game cosplay competition a while ago.
Simply put, the so-called "cover group Idol Girls" does not exist. It was simply a group participating in a cosplay competition. However, Idol Girls is indeed a 9-member girl group that debuted recently.
Also, something else I'd like to clear up that I've seen floating around in the comments on the other article... I saw some of you posted this video
and said that either 1, the main singing girl was in Idol Girls, or 2, that the group Idol Girls is the group of backup dancers. Neither is true. The singer is 严当当 ((Yan Dang Dang)) and the song is 中国姑娘 ((Chinese Girls)). I've also seen people say that 严当当 ((Yan Dang Dang)) is the name of the song that is supposedly "copied" from Gee. Just to clarify, there is no such song that is "copying" Gee and Yan Dang Dang has absolutely nothing to do with Idol Girls, who have nothing to do with the group of girls who cosplayed as SNSD for the competition.
Also, in regard to the dance being plagiarized, Yan Dang Dang's manager/rep wrote this letter to the fans to explain what had happened:
Dear netizens, hello! I am Yan Dang Dang's representative. First, I'd like to think everyone's long-term support and concern for Yan Dang Dang. Recently, after filming and producing the MV for "Chinese Girls", netizens have been saying things about the accompanying dance for the MV. I feel like I should give everyone an explanation. During the entire filming, Yan Dang Dang did not know anything about the choreography for the accompanying dance, because the dance was organized by the choreographer and the MV director. Yan Dang Dang also knew nothing about the Korean group "SNSD" and their products. Now, as of 2009 August 10 @7:30PM, I am working with the director of the MV to figure things out. I have made the following decisions: 1. The choreographer will make an announcement to the netizens explaining the situation behind the choreography. 2. The tape for this "Chinese Girls" MV will be destroyed. 3. We will remake the MV for "Chinese Girls" quickly as a way to thank the fan netizens for their support and care. For the past few days I have been anxiously awaiting the answer of "Chinese Girls" MV's director and choreographer. In this period I have also called and texted the director many times, but the MV director has never picked up the phone or answered my texts. Until I sent a rather forceful notice to the director, she did not reply until 2009 August 15 at midnight, calling me to say that she is already talking and negotiating with the choreographer. She has already consulted with the Dance Society and related lawyers; this copy of "Chinese Girls" MV's accompanying dance is not considered plagiarism ((TN: I think this is because the artist and her company were not aware of this and so the legal responsibility is all the choreographer's)). I have also asked the MV director to hurry the choreographer to make an announcement on the web to explain to the netizens. I am also anxiously awaiting this version of the "Chinese Girls" MV's director and choreographer to give an answer. Apologizing once again! Liu Heng
They did actually make a new MV for this song:
