[news] Talent agencies offering to sign on Park Jae-beom
2010.04.28
Park Jae-beom, the former leader of boy band 2PM who left the group last fall, has been receiving offers from several talent agencies in Korea.
The singer, who was dropped by his former agency JYP Entertainment (JYPE) in February when JYPE terminated its contract with him over "a huge personal wrongdoing", has been rebuilding his music career in the U.S. and recently agreed to star in the b-boy film "Hype Nation".
The news of his upcoming star turn in "Hype Nation" is said to have caught the attention of several agencies in Korea and are wanting to sign him on.
"Several agencies have said that they want to recruit him and even offered him the contract terms in detail," a source related to "Hype Nation" said.
Local agencies had reportedly been interested in signing the former pop idol ever since he parted with JYPE, but none had been public about their intentions as they were worried about the public's response to Park's comeback to the local scene.
The Seattle-born singer was at the peak of his career last September when it was revealed that he had written several controversial remarks -- including "I hate Korea" -- on his MySpace pages during his teenage years as a trainee at JYPE.
The matter caused an uproar around the country, leading to Park quitting the band and leaving Korea four days after his old comments surfaced on the Internet.
Park had been staying in the U.S. since, dancing with his b-boy crew Art of Movement and preparing for debut in the U.S. music scene through collaborations with Dumbfoundead and noted record producer Teddy Riley.
He is scheduled to visit Korea this weekend or early next month to start shooting the film "Hype Nation".
