[News] Super Rookie G.NA "My Hard Trainee Life Was My Life's Largest Study"
2010.08.16
Super rookie Gina's (G.NA) debut song 'I'll Back Off So You Can Live' hit the Korean music industry. Although is hasn't been less than a month since her debut, she already rose to the top. But, Gina firmly said, "I can't be satisfied with only this." She also added, "I was worried whether my new song would quickly receive reactions and if it would self-conceit itself. I still believe that I have a long way to go." All throughout the interview, she repeatedly said, "Thank you. I will work hard," and she displayed her modesty.
For about 5 years, Gina had a hard trainee life. She was the former member of the 'misfortunate girl group' Five Girls. Because of agency problems before their debut, the group got disbanded and the members separated. But, some of the members joined new girl groups and exposed their skills. Wonder Girls' Yubin, After School's UEE, and Secret's Hyosung were Gina's dongsaengs who were preparing for Five Girls. Gina honestly said, "It was hard and embarrassing to see the friends I trained with debut first and succeed. My heart was tired. I was both joyful and frustrated. I believe that it was a period of my life's largest study."
Gina thanked, "I thought this was the end (when the debut of Five Girls was cancelled). It was hard for me, but I started to better understand things. Because my dongsaengs did well, I was able to raise my goals. So, I'm thankful."
Finally, Gina came out alone as a soloist. She confidently said, "I was worried that female soloists had a danger of carrying a big responsibility. But, my original dream was to become a solo singer, anyway"
She got many requests to come into other girl groups. She even had the possibility of debuting with the 4minute members from the same company. But, at that time, Gina chose the ambiguous solo dream. She admitted, "I wasn't sure when I would debut. The other members had the danger of vanishing [from the music industry]. But, I stayed up every night and made music."
The lyrics of her debut song 'I'll Back Off So You Can Live' is Gina's personal experience. She said, "After Wheesung listened to my true love story when I was in Canada, he wrote these lyrics." Her song 'What I Want To Do Once I Have a Lover' that she sang with top star Rain (Jung Jihoon) became a topic of conversation. "Because he had a good relationship with the company (CUBE), Rain frequently visited the practice rooms. That was when we became lovers and recorded this song together. I'm also thankful that Rain's fans liked me," and she smiled.
Gina's performance doesn't seek sexiness. But, she continues to be exquisitely sexy. She confidently said, "I'm doing my best to talk with my eyes. But, it's definitely nice to hear that I'm sexy. I think telling a girl that she's sexy gives her more confidence."
From now on, what are Gina's goals? Her ambitious goal of wanting to challenge the American market returned. Due to her fluent English, she can easily catch that dream. Also, Gina was more mature than expected. She expressed her deep thoughts by saying, "I believe that there will be no improvement if a person is satisfied with just one thing. The fact that I am challenging myself on a large stage gives me hope and raises my passion."
She chicly added, "After my debut, I went crazy for 3 weeks to the point of not knowing how my day went. Now, I found some composure, and I must prepare my follow-up song."
Now, Gina is rookie who took her first step. But, her big long strides are getting faster. Indeed, how far will she run?
