Hallyu star Jang Geun-seok donated 5 million won ($4,323) at a charity auction. On Dec. 6 actor-singer Jang attended the third annual Asia Jewelry Awards hosted by jewelry designer MUCHA. The awards ran like an auction where guests made bids for items with proceeds going to charity.
At the auction Jang bought a crown made for the 2009 Miss Korea beauty pageant. The bid for the crown started at 3.7 million won and the star had to outbid a female guest before winning.
The item won the prestigious "President's Award" given to products featuring exceptional design. The crown was made of white gold and the sum Jang paid went to Unicef to help those suffering from poverty.
Of late, Jang was also featured in the papers for donating 1.2 billion won to his alma mater, Hanyang University in November. Other celebrities present at the auction were Kim Jun-su from the band JYJ, T-ara, and MBLAQ. The stars in attendance donated personal objects in order to raise funds for Unicef.
