IU‘s sales figures for 2011 are projected to easily go over 10,000,000,000KRW (about $9 million at press time).
IU has become the top solo artist in Korea with the album ‘REAL’ released in December of 2010 with the title song ‘Good Day’. In 2011, ‘Good Day’ continued to enjoy much popularity then the hits continued with ‘Someday’ which was on the OST for KBS 2TV drama ‘Dream High’ as well as ‘The Story Only I Didn’t Know’ which Yoon Sang worked on with IU.
IU also sang ‘Hold My Hand’ off of the OST of MBC’s ‘The Greatest Love’ which was hugely popular. IU also sang the theme song ‘Ice Flower’ to SBS’s ‘I like Sundays – Kim Yuna’s Kiss and Cry’ with the queen of figure skating herself Kim Yuna.
IU had a short break then on November 29th, released her 2nd full album ‘Last Fantasy’ continuing in the wave of the Girl Diva. As soon as the album was released, all of the songs took over the top spots on many charts and the popularity still continues.
It has already been announced that IU reached 6,000,000,000KRW (about $5.4 million at press time) in the first quarter of 2011 alone. So naturally, the projection for the year 2011 is reaching over $9 million. It’s also notable that IU has really concentrated in promotions within Korea unlike many idols who have worked overseas as well.
