(Note: This is a Japanese article and IU is considered 18 years old in Japan since she was born in 1993 and her birthday has not passed yet.)
IU is Korea's No.1 high school solo female singer (Note: IU has quit schooling to focus on her career). All 13 tracks on her second album, 'Last Fantasy' which was released in November last year, took positions 1 through 13 on major Korean music charts, achieving an unprecedented record of over 10 million downloads.
IU held her "IU JAPAN PREMIUM" SPECIAL LIVE showcase at the Bunkamura Orchard Hall on January 24th. About 4000 fans (2 shows) were selected from those who purchased her "I □ U" Japan Pre-debut album, released back in December last year, to attend this showcase. Including her encore, she performed 5 songs in total.
The live performance also featured an orchestra with 37 members. After her debut song, 'Lost Child', she performed 'Rain Drop', followed by 'Good Day' (Japanese version). She gradually raised the key towards the climax of the song and showcased the phenomenal technique of her '3 level vocal booster', which lasted more than 10 seconds. Also, IU announced that she would be releasing her Japan debut single "Good Day"(Japanese Version) on 21st March, to which the audience present responded excitedly.
As for the encore, she performed a cover of Minnie Riperton's "Loving You" on her acoustic guitar, her falsetto adding a splendid finishing touch to the whole event.
Her debut song, "Good Day"(Japanese Version), released on March 21st, is set to propel her to fame as a top artist. With a record of 5 consecutive weeks in 1st position in Korea, her name can be said to be synonymous with this song.
There are also promotion events for her Japan debut single. Out of the 3 versions on sale (Limited Edition Type A, Limited Edition Type B and the Regular edition), as long as you purchase one, you stand a chance to attend one of the 'IU Special Events' held at 5 cities in Japan (scheduled to be held at Sapporo, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Hukuoka).
Furthermore, IU will be attending the "14th Tokyo Girls Collection 2012 SPRING / SUMMER" event held at Yokohama Arena on March 3rd. This is the first time IU will be attending Japan's largest fashion event. Although the details have not be firmed up yet, it is expected that IU will be performing "Good Day" (Japanese Version) at the event.
