Nearly a month after his death, it has been reported that ‘New Tales of Gisaeng’ producer Son Moon Kwon committed suicide. One news outlet reported that PD Son hanged himself at his home in Ilsan on January 21st.

A family member stated, "His wife and screenwriter Im Sung Han was the first one to find him dead after he hanged himself on a staircase at his home. Im told those who knew about [the death] not to tell the other family members. Even PD Son’s siblings didn’t know about his death."

Because the death was kept secret, high-level officials from MBC and SBS, other PDs, staff members and actors who had worked with him in the past didn′t knew of it until the news broke out.

Soon Moon Kwon and Im Sung Han married in January 2007 despite their 12 year age difference. The couple created several popular dramas, like “Queen of Ahyun, Assorted Gems” and “New Tales of Gisaeng” together, and they were in the midst of casting for an upcoming drama, which was supposed to air within the first half of 2012. The drama is expected to be dropped due to PD Son’s death.
