The official website of the ’1st Gaon Chart Awards’ (www.kpopawards.co.kr) was officially launched on February 13th.

On the official website, there are various information about award ceremony, categories, judging process, logo, trophies, etc as well as the list of nominees.

The award categories are ‘Artists of The Year Award (16 divisions), ‘New Artist of The Year Award’, ‘Best Music Composer/Lyricist of The Year Award’, ‘Best Performer of The Year Award’ , ‘Technical Excellence of The Year Award’, ‘Style of The Year Award’, ‘New Media Platform Award’, ‘Producer of The Year Award’, ‘Oricon Hallyu Singer Award’, ‘Kpop Contribution Award’, ‘International Song of The Year Award’ and ‘Discovery of The Year Award’. The award ceremony will be held on February 22nd starting at 7pm KST at Blue Square Samsung Card Hall.

The ‘Oricon Hallyu Singer Award’ will be awarded to the Korean artist who has recorded the highest album sales in Japan last year (2011) based on Oricon’s aggregate sales data. by Oricon. The trophy will be presented to the winner by the Chairman of Oricon Group, Goike Kow during the event.

The recipient for the ‘International Song of The Year Award’ has been selected and the trophy goes to the world-known rock band Maroon 5 who will be revealing their feelings and thoughts on receiving this award through a video message which will be played during the award ceremony.

The 3-hour ’1st GaOn Chart Kpop Awards’ will be aired live simultaneously on KBS Drama and KBS Joy.
