The Asia Fashion Exchange 2012, into its third year now, was held from May 16th to the 20th. This year, labels Mugler’s creative director Nicola Formichetti walked the stage with designer Thierry Mugler in Singapore last week for their Audi Fashion Festival Opening Show of Mugler A/W 2012.
Nicola Formichetti (35) is also on his Asian tour, which has taken him to Beijing for the launching of Nicola Formichetti’s Nicopanda. Nicola Formichetti sat down for an interview and discussed the trajectory of Formichetti’s career—from his early years, on meeting and working with Lady Gaga [Lady Gaga's meat dress, anyone?] to creative director of Mugler, and his favorite groups, 2NE1 and Big Bang.
Nicola Formichetti was born in Shizuoka, Japan to a Japanese mother and Italian Father.
Q: As an Asian and a European, what do you know about Korea…
NF: “I’m a huge fan of Big Bang and 2NE1. I can even sing 2NE1’s songs. Just this morning, I listened to 2NE1’s “Scream” and Big Bang’s “Fantastic Baby”. (Takes out his iPhone and shows
us the playback list.) This is a secret, but I might work with 2NE1 in the future.”
