The Wonder Girls are representing South Korea in Billboard’s ‘Musical Olympics’.
On July 30th, Billboard announced the top 40 musicians in the world for the Musical Olympics titled, “40 Countries Top Musicians”. The website wrote, “With all eyes on the 2012 Olympics, we’re celebrating the artists that have made their home nations most proud by winning gold (records) and making a lasting, global impact on the music world.”
After compiling all the Billboard figures to date, the most representative singers from countries all over the world were picked out. Representing the South Korea, Billboard picked the idol group, Wonder Girls.
Billboard described, “Since hitting U.S. shores on tour with the Jonas Brothers in 2011, South Korea’s Wonder Girls have become one of the biggest international K-pop acts, with a range of singles and albums in Asia, and a studio album due out in the States later this year. They first appeared on the U.S. charts in Oct. 2009, when ‘Nobody’ entered the Hot 100 at No. 76.”
Other acts named for this honor were Rihanna for Barbados, Celine Dion and Justin Bieber for Canada, Bob Marley for Jamaica, the Beatles for England, Santana for Mexico, and Nicki Minaj for Trinidad and Tobago. Representing the US were Elvis Presley, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Garth Brooks.
