World star Psy has been nominated as a candidate for Time Magazine’s ‘Person of the Year’.
Psy joins the list of candidates including U.S. President Barack Obama, North Korean leader Kim Jong Eun, China’s new Communist Party leader Xi Jinping among other influential world leaders. The list was revealed by the magazine’s homepage on November 26th (local time).
According to Time Magazine, the reason why Psy was nominated was his “slick, wickedly satirical video ‘Gangnam Style’ broke all kinds of sound barriers this year, clocking more than 820 million YouTube views.” The U.S. magazine added, “The über-ambitious Seoul music industry watched in amazement as the eccentric 34-year-old hip-hop artist, gleefully skewering the music machine that made him, managed to go where no Korean performer had gone before. The rest of us just danced.”
The winner is chosen by online voting on the Time website until December 13th.
