Psy to change song title for fear of offending Arabs
2013.03.21
The title of Psy’s follow-up song to his hit “Gangnam Style,” which is set for release next month, will be changed due to concerns it could sound offensive to Arabs.
Recently, Psy revealed that he was considering between two songs for his next title song, and that “Assaravia” (can be written as “Assarabia”) was one of them. It’s slang used by South Koreans to express excitement but worries have risen that Arabs might misinterpret the title and find it derogatory.
Psy stated that even if “Assaravia” was his next song, he will change the title and some lyrics will be changed as well. He also explained via twitter, “It’s Korean slang & spell is #assaraVia & Not gonna be a single anyway.”
