Malware Attack Posing as Facebook Video Link Will Steal Your Passwords

Facebook users are now the target of a malware attack that disguises itself as a video from one of your Facebook contacts.
The New York Times reports that the new threat hijacks your Facebook accounts and Web browsers. The virus appears as a link in an email or Facebook message that tells you someone has tagged you in a Facebook post. When you log on to Facebook and click on the link, you're directed to another website and told to download a browser extension or plugin to watch the video.
Once the plugin is downloaded, the virus gains access to everything you've stored in your browser, including accounts with saved passwords.
According to researchers, the virus has been spreading at a rate of about 40,000 attacks an hour and has infected more than 800,000 people via Google's Chrome browser.
Google has already disabled extensions that allowed it, and Facebook has also detected the virus and is working to clear the links. A Facebook spokesperson says the social network is currently blocking people from clicking through the links.
