Who knew a little nookie could do wonders for your sleeping habits? Saralyn Mark, M.D., associate professor of medicine and OB/GYN at the Yale School of Medicine, explains that all this all has to do with hormone production during intercourse.

Sex helps to boost the production of oxytocin, the feel good hormone that helps you and your S.O. bond. It also decreases the production of the stress hormone cortisol. Such hormonal changes help to relax your body, which in turn makes it easier to fall asleep.

And there are extra benefits for ladies. Not only does having sex help increase estrogen levels, it can also enhance a woman’s REM cycle for a deeper sleep.
