Did you know that there are people competing in a bike race from the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole? The winner will be the first person to ever bike there. One of the contestants is riding a tricycle.

35 year old Maria Leijerstam is attempting to take this badass looking tricycle there. She already left the Novo Russian Airbase on December 17th on the tricycle designed by British group Inspired Cycle Engineering (ICE). Her other competitors are on traditional bikes - Juan Mendez and Daniel Burton.

Will three wheels get her there faster? .

Leijerstam tested the aircraft-grade steel trike in Siberia, Norway, Iceland ad industrial freezers to make sure it was going to be reliable on her intense South Pole ride. Check it out below: [Discovery via Digg]
