If your backyard is looking a little dated or untidy it may be time to give it a makeover.  This will make it look fantastic and give you a place that you will enjoy sitting in to read a book, entertain the kids or get some peace and quiet. Here are some ideas on how to give your backyard a makeover.

Clear Debris
Some backyards have a habit of becoming dumping grounds for unwanted items that don’t have an alternative home, so you will need to clear these out to start with.  Have a good sort out and decide what you need and what you don’t.  If the kids have grown out of their garden toys or bikes it is time to get rid of them.  The general rule is that if you have not used the item for the last six months, you don’t need it.

Shrubs
It is a good idea to prune the shrubs and cut back anything that has gotten too out of hand.  This will give you some great exercise and make your backyard look bigger.  Mow the grass and get rid of any dead leaves while you are there.  You may want to plant some new flowers or plants to improve the aesthetics of your backyard at this point.

Fencing
If your fencing is looking old or you have panels missing it might be time to replace it. Contact a St Louis fence company like Outdoor Living, Inc. for a quote.  Fencing can make or break a backyard.  If it does not look good, then your backyard will not look good regardless of how clean and tidy the rest of it is. Replace any missing fence panels if you need to and paint your remaining panels to give them a fresh look and make them seem new again.

Outdoor Furniture
Your outdoor furniture can be easy to overlook but could make a big difference to the overall appearance of your backyard.  Furniture such as outdoor tables and chairs can rust in wet weather and painted wooden furniture will chip over time.  Consider whether you could improve the look of your furniture by giving it a good clean and a lick of paint.  If this isn’t going to make much of a difference, then it might be time to go shopping for some new garden furniture.

Paving
If you have paving slabs in your backyard they will crack over time and vegetation will grow between the cracks.  Use weed-killer to get rid of the moss and unwanted vegetation between the cracks.  If the slabs are badly damaged it is best to replace them if you want your garden to look good.  You can either do this yourself or call in a professional company to do it for you.

Once you have finished all these jobs it will be time for a rest.  Enjoy a coffee or a beer on your new-look backyard furniture and enjoy the view you have created.  You have earned it.
