Modern

Employing a sense of simplicity in all its elements, the term “Modern” is a broad term to describe an interior style that typically is clean, uses crisp lines and a neutral or uncomplicated colour palette. Accessories will be undemanding and nominal. Modern should not be confused with contemporary interiors. A contemporary interior style follows current trends, modern interiors are dated back to modernist movement in 1925 to 1950.

When decorating your modern home, look for furniture that you would describe as sleek. It will include clean forms and a minimal design. Even with a basic design, it will be interesting and unique. Think of more modern materials like glass, steel and metal.

Minimalist

Take the notion of modern interiors and their simplistic values, and take it even further. This interior style is defined by its sense of functionality and ultra clean lines and design. Little accessories and decor is used, everything will have a reason for being there, if it doesn’t have a reason, a minimal interior wouldn’t include it.

Look for furniture that is simple and streamlined, forms can be more free in the interior style whether it be curved or straight lines used. The shapes used for furniture will be the main decoration so look closely to what you want to feature. Colours will be neutral and airy, featuring a lot of white, nude, beige, etc.

Industrial

Many elements in an industrial style home will be raw and unfinished, this may include an exposed brick wall or wooden beams. As the name implies, industrial homes draw inspiration from warehouses or urban lofts.

The colour scheme will be neutral and darker, think of ebony, maroon, walnut and midnight grey colours. Furniture you want to look for will want to be rustic, rugged and use industrial materials like wood, steel, concrete or leather. Furniture doesn’t need to look new, and actually a used piece of furniture can look more fitting in this interior style.

Mid-Century Modern

A nostalgic interior style, easily taken from the name, mid-century modern is inspired by the mid-century modern movement. There was a change in interior design, for the better, as people started to look for minimal and functional designs. The style emphasizes reduced fabrication, easy to use contemporary design and more natural or organic shapes.
Furniture that mixed the use of traditional and modern materials were very popular. Design forms are described as biomorphic and uncomplicated. Wooden furnishings had sharp, clean lines in comparison to accent Noguchi coffee tables which were softer shaped and featured curved, modern lines.

Bohemian

Reflecting a carefree lifestyle and spirit. Bohemian interior styles have little rules, the only one being to follow your heart's desire. An eclectic style has a laid back attitude to design where anything can go, very different to other interior design trends.

With no strict rules, Bohemian styled homes can be what you want them to be, with no colour palette to abide by or designs to follow, you have the ultimate freedom.
