You might not realize it, but all the contents in your stomach could potentially be converted into a renewable fuel that could be used to power all sorts of things. At least that's the idea behind this new toilet system developed by scientists from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), which converts human waste to electricity and fertiliser.



Dubbed the "No-Mix Vacuum Toilet", the system has two chambers meant to separate liquid and solid wastes.
The solid waste will then be processed into "biogas" which is created by the breakdown of organic matter and can be compressed the way natural gas can.

As for the liquid waste, this will be processed for chemicals like phosphorus to create fertilizer and a cleaner form of diesel that can power planes, trains and automobiles. Think about that the next time before you flush.
