On Tuesday night, a California Highway Patrol officer made Cecilia Abadie the world's first person to get a ticket for wearing Google Glass while driving.
Abadie is a project manager at Full Swing Golf in San Diego, and is an enthusiastic Glass Explorer. She told her story on Google+ and posted up the said ticket.
The first violation on the ticket is driving in excess of 65 mph, while the second violation reads “Driving with monitor visible to driver (Google Glass)."
But to make the latter part of the ticket valid, the officer would have to prove that Abadie had the screen active at the time. She says it wasn't.
The California Vehicle Code section 27602 says you can't drive if a video screen "is operating and the monitor, screen, or display is visible to the driver while driving the motor vehicle."
There are, however, exceptions for GPS and other navigation devices.
