'Selfie' has been named the Oxford Dictionaries word of the year. And you thought 'twerk' had a chance! According to Oxford Dictionaries editors, the use of the word has increased by 17,000 percent since this time last year. Here's how they describe it:



The Oxford University Press has managed to trace the usage of the word way back to 2002. It was being used in an Australian forum to describe a self-taken photo posted by someone after a drunken fall. The hashtag first appeared on Flickr in 2004.
