You may be able to own a pair of Google Glass earlier than expected. The Financial times reports that Google is making "tens of thousands" more pairs in the next few months.

This doesn't mean you'll be able to waltz into a Glass store and buy your own unit anytime soon, though. Google will still offer the opportunity to pay $1,500 for an Explorer Edition through Twitter contests as it has in the past. It's also possible that a wider rollout will be gradual. According to the FT report, Glasskateers will be able to invite their friends to buy Glass - just like Gmail's beginnings.

Google is planning a general public release sometime in 2014, but for now, this just means more people than the original 10,000 or so might have a chance to be Glass beta testers.

Google says it's letting current Explorers refer three friends to buy Glass starting today. Explorers can buy Glass online and have it shipped directly to them. Additionally, Explorers will have a chance later this year to upgrade their hardware to a new pair.
