Self driving cars still have a long way more to go before it becomes mainstream, but the technology itself is so much better than one would think.

Google has gotten one step closer to replacing every human driver on earth with machines. They've proven that their autonomous mobiles are smoother and safer than the average driver.

According to Chris Urmson, lead for Google's self driving car project, the analysis of data logged from hundreds of thousands of self driven miles showed that the self driving cars not only maintained a safer following distance behind cars in front but also accelerated and came to a halt much more smoothly than professional drivers.

According to the MIT Technology Review:
“We’re spending less time in near-collision states,” said Urmson. “Our car is driving more smoothly and more safely than our trained professional drivers.”
