Google is building robots. But what better way to do so by buying the one company that makes them terrifying? They confirmed that they have acquired Boston Dynamics.

BD makes creepy walking humanoids and even more creepy running animal bots. The company declined to tell the New York Times how much they spent on the engineering company. Boston Dynamics already works for the Pentagon to develop battlefield ready robots. Google says it does not plan on becoming a military contractor on its own. All the exiting Boston Dynamics military contracts will be honored.

The robotics team will be led by Andy Rubin, who recently stepped down as head of Android. In an interview last week, Rubin was tight lipped about what the robotics team has in store. And since Google is now building robots, will we be able to buy one for ourselves?

Just so long it's not one that throws cinderblocks at us. [The New York Times]
