Got time to kill at work? Then check out this optical illusion above. While they might initially look like just static black and white lines, try staring at a spot just a few inches away from the it and watch the magic work.



Notice the "flickering" sensation in the center of the image? If the pinwheel is in your peripheral vision, the center should flicker just like how a really bright star does.

Of course, it's not really flickering. What you're actually experiencing is a physical manifestation of your brain's alpha waves.  These alpha waves were the first neural oscillations detected by Hans Berger and represent rhythmic changes in brain activity.
