This piece of wood here looks more like a chopping board than anything else. But it turns out, there's some technology blended into it. This is the Touch Slab.

Orée's apparently already found a way to make it work, where it'll detect your finger gestures through a layer of maple or walnut wood. It will be available in mid October.

The touchpad also does away with unsightly wires, relying on a rechargeable battery and a Bluetooth connection to your Mac or Windows system. If it stops working you know you can bring this in to the kitchen for its second life. Chop them garlic on it! [Orée]
