Even though it is impossible to lose body fat while eating lots of sweets, food, and cakes, you don’t have to completely rid treats from your life. You should limit treats to small quantities once in a while or on special occasions. Making healthier choices and eating less can force your body to use stored body fat as fuel hence helping you lose weight. This does not mean crash dieting (a significant calorie drop for you) as this may either make you get weaker or you may give up in desperation.

The problem with quick-fix diets is that they are not sustainable over the long-term as the drastic weight loss is usually followed by weight gain. It is important to note that there is no short cut when it comes to losing weight. You have to lose weight reasonably and healthily. If you eat 300-500 calories less every day, you will lose between 1 and 2 pounds per week. Such a target is realistic.

Although it may seem slow, it can help you lose more than 3 stone in a year. Reducing your calorie intake is tough if you consume a lot of empty-calorie foods that don’t have any nutritional value. These foods include biscuits, sweets, cakes, and fizzy drinks. To lose weight, replace empty calorie foods with healthy foods. Lose a stone quickly and keep it off by sticking to a lower calorie diet.

Fat has more calories than other food types (carbohydrates, protein). As such, it is good to cut the amount of fatty foods you consume and instead eat more fruit, wholegrain bread, and vegetables. Here are ways to reduce calorie intake without altering your diet significantly:

-Replace fruit cordials and fizzy drinks with water
-Swap semi-skimmed for skimmed milk or whole milk for semi-skimmed
-Eat less lunch than you usually eat. For instance, consider making your own sandwich and limit the use of butter or margarine and full-fat mayonnaise (sandwiches sold in stores contain both of these). Eat healthier bread with wholegrains or make a salad with a good protein source like fish, chicken, or egg.
-Stop adding sugar to your tea or coffee
-Eat smaller portions of the food you like
-Wean yourself from second helpings at dinner
-Cut out unhealthy treats like sugary biscuits, confectionery, crisps, and biscuits between meals.
-Reduce your alcohol intake

These things will help you live a healthy life. Do them.

Last but not least, don’t skip breakfast or any meal to lose weight. Skipping a meal can help reduce your calorie intake for the hour you missed the meal. However, it will leave you feeling hungrier later on and this can make you overeat to compensate.

Also, you will more likely eat unhealthy foods to compensate: a cereal bar is less healthy than healthy fortified cereal or as filling making you ‘need’ something extra for lunch. Whole Grain toast with some avocado is more healthy than highly processed sugary cereal in the morning.
