AMG, the worldwide Mercedes in house tuner founded by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher in 1967 first started as an independent enginnering firm specializing in performance improvements for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
Their philosophy was simply - help grow it into the most important Mercedes tuner.
AMG built cars to suit their customers’ desires and that helped their business take off. The company’s success as a tuner and racing specialist made Mercedes take over AMG.
AMG was renamed Mercedes-AMG in 1999 following DaimlerChrysler's acquisition of 51 percent of AMG shares. Check out their history in the video below:
