Rumors are flying that Elizabeth Banks could be Spidey's new Mary-Jane. Since Kirsten Dunst has not locked down for Spidey 4 and 5, its uncertain that whether or not someone else would fill her shoes.
Having said that, Elizabeth Banks was already in Spider-Man playing the daily bugle's Betty Brant. Now that she's a star on her own, Elizabeth says she won't be returning to Spidey if she doesn't get a bigger role.
All aside, if you've played one role in a movie you most likely shouldn't be upgraded into a bigger role ie. the lead actress's role.
That's like saying you'll be upgraded to first class when economy is all full. Don't think it works like that.
