Iron Man II starts lensing this Monday, which means when Robert Downey Jr’s The Soloist finally opens on April 24th, he will be deep into production. That whole thing means that the alert has gone out to the media, which means Downey et al will be preparing statements about Iron Man II a full year before the film’s release.
The first Iron Man kind of got into creepy internet fanboy mode after they debuted a trailer that shook the foundations of the super hero film fan cliques (this was pre-Dark Knight, mind you), and there’s no reason to think that this year, Iron Man II set leaks will be kind of everywhere. Twitter is going to hit it hard, for sure.
That being said, Downey Jr is gearing up for Iron Man II, and has some stuff to say about his skinny, Sherlock Holmes body and Scarlett Johansson’s smokin’ hot body…
“The film is almost entirely about character, and yet we still have twice as much action as we did last time, so it’s going to be nuts,” Robert tells our own Thea Andrews of the super sequel, set to start filming Monday. “Essentially ‘Iron Man 2′ is about looking behind the armor, or the armature, of a superhero. It’s one thing to say you’re Iron Man, it’s another thing to be fully ready to do that.”
Robert says he’s no longer on his strict ‘Sherlock Holmes’ diet and has returned to some serious iron to once again portray Tony Stark: “I’m on Beefcake Charlie status,” he jokes. “I’ve got to not be the skinny Brit anymore. I have to be the Tony that you know and may have loved.”
As for co-star Scarlett Johansson, who plays the femme fatale Black Widow in the sequel, Robert says, “We’ve been rehearsing and she’s in insane shape. She’s getting lean and mean.”
Mmmmm. Lean and mean Scarlett….I’m drooling. Which is embaressing, but I could just be lying to you through text.
It’s hard to find a person who didn’t like 2012’s Dredd, a film that stands alongside RoboCop as the ultra-violent, dystopic film fans needed at the time, but a sequel to the movie hasn’t been forthcoming; in fact, over the past few years, the likelihood of a second outing for Olivia Thirlby and Karl Urban’s chin has hovered around zero.
