The first official trailer for "The Giver" was just released. Based on the bestselling 1993 young adult novel by Lois Lowry, it follows the story of a boy named Jonas through 12 years of his life in a future Utopian society, that isn't quite utopia as it looks later on.
Jonas is assigned the role of The Receiver of Memory, or the only person who can remember what life was like before the Sameness took over.
He receives them from the elder receiver known as The Giver, played by Jeff Bridges.
Also starring in the film are Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard, Katie Holmes, and, er, Taylor Swift?
It’s hard to find a person who didn’t like 2012’s Dredd, a film that stands alongside RoboCop as the ultra-violent, dystopic film fans needed at the time, but a sequel to the movie hasn’t been forthcoming; in fact, over the past few years, the likelihood of a second outing for Olivia Thirlby and Karl Urban’s chin has hovered around zero.
