Wacom, best known for their pen tablets and displays, have come out with their first foray into music equipment with the nextbeat – an instrument for creative DJs. Featuring 2 turntables, a 2-channel mixer, a sampler and an effector it even allows for a detachable portable unit allowing the DJ to move around while communicating with the nextbeat’s base wirelessly.

The nextbeat went on sale this month in Japan and Europe. No word yet on whether it will be available in North America. Meanwhile, Wacom’s setting up promotional events for the new device at WIRE09, (Japan’s largest dance music festival) on August 29, BPM (Europe’s biggest DJ and performance show) on October 3 & 4, and Amsterdam Dance Event on October 23 & 24.
