There's no shortage of wacky stories involving babies being born in strange places, but one Royal Artillery gunner stationed at the British base in Helmand trumps them all. The unnamed female gunner underwent a six-month tour without realising she had been pregnant before giving birth to a healthy baby boy five weeks prematurely. Both are reported to be in stable condition.
According to Huffington Post!, the symptoms might have be overlooked due to the stressful circumstances endured during a tour of duty in Afghanistan. She only discovered she was pregnant after she went to medics complaining of stomach pains.
What's unique about this (besides the obvious circumstances) is that it was also the first time a
British soldier had given birth on the front line. In light of the news, military chiefs are now pushing for all female soldiers to undergo pregnancy tests before being deployed.
