Energy drinks give you a boost before, during or after an exercise, but it turns out the humble banana will get the job done better.

Bananas give you an energy and nutrition boost when you're exercising. New research compared a banana with a carbohydrate sports drink like Gatorade to see which was more beneficial when consumed during a period of intense cycling:

Researcher Dr. David C. Nieman says "We found that not only was performance the same whether bananas or sports drinks were consumed, there were several advantages to consuming bananas."

The bananas had antioxidants and nutrients that the Gatorade-like drinks don't have. Plus bananas offer healthier blends of sugars too. So ditch your energy drinks and eat a banana!
