Rhiannon Brooksbank–Jones reportedly underwent surgery to lengthen her tongue's reach to improve her pronouncation on certain Korean words.

The 19-year-old and future Korean Studies major says she struggled with particular sounds because of her thicker-than-average lingual frenulum (the flappy tissue that connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth). "My pronunciation was very 'foreign'," she says, "but now I can speak with a native Korean accent."

The surgery is known as a lingual frenectomy, a short procedure that extends the tongue by about half-an-inch. You can watch the process below (Warning: it's not for the squeamish!)
