Although they are not able to confirm, doctors believe that Calvino is suffering from a physical condition called "Haemolacria" which causes a person to produce teas that are partially composed of blood. According to Wikipedia, it can manifest as tears that are anything from merely red-tinged to appearing to be entirely made out of blood. However, it is a symptom of other diseases, so more diagnostics need to be done.
