An embarrassing shortage of toilet paper, the result of damage from a series of hurricanes, has seen Cuba face a serious toilet paper shortage for the first time since la Revolución.

According to a spokesperson for Cimex, the state run company responsible for Cuba’s toilet paper supply, a shipment of imported toilet paper is required to meet the present supply problems. However, due to the sanctions that have been imposed on the island nation, there is little chance of arranging a shipment before the end of the year.

The situation followed soon after President Raul Castro’s decision to cut government spending by 20%, a move that was made to preserve state funds.
